FORMER Colchester United fitness guru Donough Holohan is celebrating after playing his part in Manchester City’s treble-winning season.

The sports scientist and strength and conditioning coach, who worked at the U’s for two years between 2006 and 2008, was part of the City camp in Istanbul, as they beat Inter Milan 1-0 to lift the Champions League trophy, on Saturday night.

It completed a glorious treble for Pep Guardiola’s side, who also won the Premier League and Carabao Cup, this season.

Holohan is a vital member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff and has been working at the Etihad Stadium since 2012.

The Irishman has been at City for more than a decade, having joined them from Charlton Athletic.

One of Geraint Williams' first decisions upon his appointment as U's manager in the summer of 2006 was to bring Holohan to Layer Road.

Holohan joined Colchester as sports scientist and fitness coach and was at the club for two years during their time in the Championship, before joining Premier League club West Ham United as their strength and rehabilitation coach in July, 2008.

City became European champions when they beat Inter Milan 1-0 in a hard-fought final in Istanbul on Saturday night.

Rodri scored the only goal of a tough contest in the 68th minute at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, landing City's first European crown after several years of near misses and completing the treble.

Guardiola hopes all of City's successes, including their five Premier League titles in the past six years, will now be given due credit without the shadow of Champions League under-achievement hanging over them.
