A RESTAURANT which “pays homage to the rich flavours of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine” has welcomed its first diners.
Kelvedon Spice, in High Street, Kelvedon, was declared open at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday evening.
Witham MP Priti Patel had the honour of cutting the ribbon and met with the manager Abdul Shalim and his team.
Ms Patel said: “My thanks to Abdul Shalim for his kind hospitality.
“It is always a pleasure to open a new business in my constituency, particularly when it offers a lovely social setting and good quality food.
“I wish Kelvedon Spice every success in the future and I hope local residents will support the new restaurant.”
Mr Shalim gave the MP a full tour of the premises and kitchens during the visit before giving her the opportunity to sample a range of dishes from the menu.
Mr Shalim said: “It was a great pleasure to have Priti here to formally open the restaurant.
“I very much enjoyed showing her around and offering her the opportunity to try something from our menu. Priti’s enthusiasm and encouragement were greatly appreciated.”
The new business has a popular sister restaurant, Coggeshall Spice, in Market Hill, Coggeshall.
