COLCHESTER Sixth Form College could replace its rotten windows after a “near miss” incident.

The college submitted its plans to replace its existing curtain walling, windows, and doors with new powder coated aluminium double-glazed units to Colchester Council’s planning department.

Outlining the proposals to the council, chartered building surveyor Andrew Marchant wrote: “[There is a] significant health and safety risk due to rotten frames around high-level glazing.”

He added there had been a near miss in September 2020 where a windowsill “fell out”.

Planning officers will now decide if the college, in North Hill, Colchester, can push forward with its plans.
