COLCHESTER United will visit Cardiff City in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The U's have been handed a trip to play the Championship side, after this afternoon's draw.

The tie will be played in the week commencing August 7.

The last time the two clubs met was in the FA Cup when the U's were beaten 3-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in a third-round tie played in January, 2015.

Colchester reached the second round of last season's competition, bowing out to Premier League side Brentford at the JobServe Community Stadium.

They had made it past the first round after beating neighbours Ipswich Town 1-0 at Portman Road, thanks to Luke Hannant's first-half strike.
