AN ambitious school has announced the opening of a new wing with hopes of inspiring a new era of creativity at the site.
Colchester Prep and High School has announced the opening of a new, state-of-the-art STEAM Centre of Excellence and Innovation, giving pupils the chance to explore their creative site.
The new STEAM centre will broaden the school’s perspective, with dedicated spaces for textiles, electronics, robotics, food science and nutrition, broadcasting, film, media and animation, game design, and an additional climate science lab.
The £500,000 investment will see work begin over the summer, with hopes of having the redeveloped existing building finished by September 2024.
Headteacher Karen Gracie-Langrick, said: “Over the last 140 years, our school has built a reputation for providing an excellent all-round education, whilst preparing pupils to be confident, balanced individuals, ready to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
“With the opening of our new STEAM Centre of Excellence and Innovation, our reputation and central educational purpose still stand firm.
“Through the provision of our STEAM Powered, Future Ready curriculum and investment in new state-of-the-art facilities, our pupils will gain the practical analytical and creative skills and mindsets required for them to become the next generation of entrepreneurs, digital creatives, wind energy engineers, driverless car mechanics, metaverse developers or telesurgeons of the 21st century workplace.”
