A DRIVER who gave false details to the police after being caught with no licence or insurance has been jailed.
Suhaib Yousuf, 24, was stopped by the police while driving an Audi A3 in East Street, Colchester, on June 7, 2018.
Officers found he was behind the wheel despite being disqualified from the roads and he had no valid third party insurance for the vehicle.
Yousuf then obstructed a police officer while they attempted to deal with him and would later fail to provide a blood sample for testing in relation to the incident.
The defendant, of Hullfield Avenue, Haringey, north London, appeared before Colchester Magistrates’ Court.
He admitted driving without third party insurance, driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and obstruction of a police officer.
Yousuf was jailed for 12 weeks after magistrates determined he “gave false details in the hope of evading detection”.
A report from the court added: “The defendant has previous like offences on his record.”
Yousuf must pay a £122 surcharge and he was banned from driving for a further three years.
