LAND behind a popular Chinese restaurant could be set for development following the submission of a planning application.
Plans have been submitted for the demolition of existing outbuildings at a Chinese and Thai restaurant in Tiptree.
The Maypole Thai Restaurant in The Maypole in Messing Road, Tiptree could be set for a partial demolition on the site following new plans.
The application looks to demolish the existing outbuildings to the rear of the restaurant and build two three-bedroom chalet bungalows together with allocated car parking and each with a private garden.
There are a total of four car parking spaces proposed for the site and two cycle spaces.
The two houses will be built on the land behind the restaurant and parking is planned for the far end of the site.
The proposed floor plans look to develop an open-plan ground floor with the first house having an open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge.
The second home will have an open plan kitchen and dining room and a separate lounge.
The Maypole is a grade II listed building and the plans hope to improve the condition of the site by replacing the buildings behind it.
In the plans, it states: “The schemes are architect-designed and significantly preferable to the poor quality structure that currently affect the setting of the listed building.
“The quality of accommodation is good and the proposal meets the relevant provision of the Development Plan.”
Colchester Council will have the final say.
