"In the past, you get a lot of people turning up in Spurs or Arsenal shirts but today, we've seen a huge number of people in Col U kits and young families, too.

"It's exactly the kind of audience we're trying to appeal to, at the Open Day.

"It's been unbelievable and I'm really pleased with the numbers."

Waddington was delighted to see so many new U's shirts sold to supporters, at the Open Day.

He said: "Macron flew over all of the shirts we would normally sell on an Open Day plus 20 per cent and they sold out.

"That's just unprecedented so I'm hoping that means the fans like the shirts and the kits are going to be a popular choice, this year."
