FIREFIGHTERS managed to prevent a thatched property going up in flames while an outbuilding burnt to the ground.
Crews were called to an address near Colchester Road in Mount Bures at about 12.45pm today (Monday).
Firefighters at the scene reported the fire, which started in a timber built outbuilding, had spread to a neighbouring thatched house.
Their swift action meant they managed to prevent the fire spreading to the whole thatched property.
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Thanks to the quick actions of the crews, the thatched property only suffered a small area of fire damage to the roof."
The cause of the fire was found to be accidental due to cooking being left unattended in the outbuilding.
The outbuilding was completely destroyed by the fire, which was attended by crews from Colchester, Halstead, Witham, Braintree and Chelmsford.
