COLCHESTER United are set to bring in a new goalkeeper coach following Graham Stack's departure.

The U's have agreed terms with a replacement for Stack, who earlier this month left the role after four months at the JobServe Community Stadium to take up a similar position at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Stack departed the U's to link up with Maccabi's new manager, former Spurs and Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane, in the Israeli Premier League.

Colchester boss Ben Garner said: "I think in those situations, you understand what an opportunity it was for him and his family.

Gazette:

"We weren't going to stand in his way and we received compensation for him from (Maccabi) Tel Aviv and he goes with our good blessings.

"We do have a replacement that's going to come in and he's just working a notice period, at his current club.

"We hope to have him in as quickly as we can."

Colchester's new goalkeeper coach will be working with their latest signing Owen Goodman, who has joined on a season-long loan from Premier League side Crystal Palace, along with Sam Hornby and Ted Collins.

Meanwhile, Garner says Colchester's youngsters will get opportunities in his first team - providing they have the talent and the right attitude.

Samson Tovide, Donell Thomas, Marley Marshall Miranda and Bradley Ihionvien are among the academy products to have featured so far for the U's, in pre-season.

Gazette:

“The academy is critical," said Garner.

“We want a pathway for our young players and if they’re good enough and they’re attitude is right, then they will get opportunities here in the first team.

“We want that pathway and to allow them to come through – it’s beneficial all round.

“I’m sure the supporters like to see the young players who have worked their way up come through.

“They’ve got a close affinity with the club and there are no downsides to it.

“From a first-team coaching point of view, we want to see the young players coming through."
