A POPULAR garden centre has picked up a coveted regional title for the seventh time.
Perrywood Tiptree was named the best destination garden centre in the region for the seventh time at the Garden Centre Association North Thames Regional Awards.
The Tiptree garden centre also came top in the region for the house plants award, Ruxley Rose plant area award, best indoor lifestyle retailer, Barton Grange trophy and the environment and sustainability award.
The garden centre’s second site in Sudbury picked up the title garden of the year for the second time.
The Sudbury nursery came top in the region the best indoor lifestyle retailer, the GIMA Award for best garden products retailer and the Ruxley Rose best plant area.
Perrywood Tiptree and Perrywood Sudbury were both announced as finalists for the Ruxley Rose Competition, which means they have one of the top ten scoring plant areas within destination garden centres and garden centres in the UK.
Destination garden centres have a turnover of £4m or more, while garden centres have a turnover of less than £4m.
Simon Bourne, retail director at Perrywood, said: "We are thrilled to have received numerous regional awards again this year.
“Our team at both Tiptree and Sudbury put in a great deal of effort to achieve such a high standard.
“These awards highlight all their hard work and creativity and it’s great to see this recognised.
“As always, we look forward to the national awards in January to find out where we are placed overall in the UK."
Members of the Garden Centre Association in the North Thames region were given an unannounced inspection between March and June.
Inspectors scored them across various criteria, from toilets and tills to sustainability and staffing.
The awards are given to those in the region achieving the highest scores.
They will be inspected again in September and joint scores from spring and autumn will be used to decide the overall winners, announced in January 2024.
