A WOMAN had to be taken to hospital following a reported broad daylight attack in a Colchester road which was recently branded “lawless”.

Essex Police officers and East of England Ambulance Service paramedics were called to North Station Road shortly before 7.30am on Thursday.

Upon arrival the emergency service workers found a woman in her 40s before transporting her to Colchester Hospital for further care and treatment.

The woman is understood to have been injured in an assault which was ultimately reported to the police.

In an image sent to the Gazette, one police car and an ambulance can be seen parked outside an Indian restaurant and two hair salons opposite the junction with Morten Road.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called shortly after 7.20am on Thursday following reports of an assault in North Station Road, Colchester.

“A woman, 40s, was taken to hospital. Our enquiries continue.”

The latest incident in North Station Road comes just one week after councillors took issue with the levels of anti-social behaviour in the area.

Figures from Essex Police show there were 19 crimes reported to officers in and around the road in May, including five reports of violence and sexual offences.

Officers have also recorded multiple thefts and a robbery, as well as numerous public order, vehicle crime and drugs offences.

The proximity of the crimes to North Primary School, in the nearby John Harper Street, has also become a cause for concern for parents.

Richard Kirkby-Taylor, Colchester councillor for Castle ward, has now sent his well wishes to the victim in the latest attack.

He said: “It is absolutely horrific whenever these things happen and my deepest sympathies go out to the victim and her family.

“I wish her a speedy recovery and I hope they catch whoever it is that did this - I encourage anyone with information to come forward.

“This goes to show the problems which can arise when you cut away the support services which prevent this type of criminal behaviour.

“We have recently as a council passed a motion that aims to target the root causes of anti-social behaviour and we hope that soon we will be seeing some improvement.”
