A BAKERY could be set to open in Marks Tey after a clothes boutique announced it would be closing its doors.
The bosses of Daizy’s Too, in London Road, Marks Tey, announced they would be closing the business earlier in July.
An architect has now submitted proposals to Colchester Council’s planning department which could see the 78 sq m retail space transformed into a bakery, potentially creating three jobs in the village.
Keen for the council to accept the plans, one resident wrote to planning officers to say a bakery would be “an asset” to Marks Tey.
Addressing their customers on social media, staff at Daizy’s Too wrote: “It’s taken a while to actually put this message together, but after much thought [we] have decided that we will be closing both the doors of our gorgeous shop and our online website.
“Without a shadow of a doubt we went off with a bang. We battled Covid, rent increases, road closures, electric bills, business rates, and much more.”

Thanking their customers, they added: “Through all this there is no doubt we made an impact - we have been a success.
“This success we owe to our loyal customers, a lot of whom we are lucky enough to now call our friends. It goes without saying we will miss you all.
“Please ladies take care of yourselves, we look forward to seeing you over the coming weeks and bumping into you after closing.
“Life has a way of chucking you curve balls, but here’s to our next chapters.”
A closing date for the shop has not yet been confirmed.
The news came as a shock to customers, with one replying: “Sending lots of love ladies.
"That’s so sad to read but as you say you’ve made a success of it and brightened lots of wardrobes and smiles along the way.
“Life’s one big curve ball so get ready to catch the next one thrown. Well done ladies, it’s been a lovely shop.”
Colchester Council will have the final say on the proposals for the store to be converted.
