LUKE Hannant has rejoined Gateshead following his departure from Colchester United.

The 29-year-old winger has joined the National League club on a two-year deal, following his release by the U's at the end of last season.

It marks a return for Hannant to the club where he spent 18 months in the early part of his career between 2016 and 2018, making 45 appearances.

Hannant told the Gateshead website: "I'm delighted to get it done.

"I've got a lot to thank Gateshead for because they gave me my first opportunity in professional football.

"It's always a club that I've kept an eye out for and it helps knowing I've got people like Tinks, Louis, Whelo and Busted who I've worked with before.

"Coming back here had that homely kind of feeling to it - Gateshead is a club that has done a lot for me and who I'm looking to repay this season."

Hannant made 29 appearances for Colchester last season before moving to Scottish Championship side Dundee on loan, helping them to win promotion to the Scottish Premiership along with Ryan Clampin.
