COLCHESTER Castle Park is set to play host to a number of top films this August as part of its Summer Social Event.
In recent years the park has been used to stage a number of open air cinema events.
And 2023 will be no different with a host of films set to be shown.
Running for four days in August, there will be movies, music and comedy to enjoy… with food and drinks to enjoy too.
The event is from Thursday, August 10 to Sunday, August 13.
From musicals and horrors to actions and kids classics, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy.
Here is the full list of films showing at the event.
Thursday, August 10
6pm to 10pm – Elvis
The Oscar-nominated film starring Austin Butler tells the story of legendary singer Elvis Presley, who is on a mission to transform the mainstream rock and roll culture of the USA.
Friday, August 11
12pm to 5pm – Matilda the Musical and The Greatest Showman
Five hours of musical fun awaits families with these top two musicals.
Based on Roald Dahl's classic book, Matilda the Musical tells the story of an extraordinary girl with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination who takes a daring stand to change her story — with miraculous results.
The Greatest Showman stars Hugh Jackman, and follows P T Barnum, who becomes a worldwide sensation in show business.
The music became a worldwide sensation, with songs such as This Is Me and Never Enough becoming hits across the globe.
5.30pm to 8.30pm - Grease
Continuing the music theme, is the classic Grease.
Everyone knows this musical rom-com, with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John stamping their mark on the film industry forever.
The songs and story have become legend, being turned into various forms of other media.
8.30pm to 10.30pm – Child’s Play
As the late night approaches, it feels apt to show a well-known horror.
Child's Play is an American slasher film, following a small doll called Chucky, who causes horrific events as the doll reveals its ominous tendencies.
Saturday, August 12
6.30pm to 10.30pm - Top Gun: Maverick
After thirty years, Maverick is still pushing the envelope as a top naval aviator but must confront ghosts of his past when he leads Top Gun's elite graduates on a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it.
The sequel to the 1986 film received roaring reviews from critics and fans alike.
There is a final film to be confirmed on Sunday, August 13.
There will also be an Ibiza In The Park and Kidz Bop event on Saturday from 12pm to 5pm and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm.
