PRIDE returns to the city today and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever.

This year's event will see the return of a Pride march through the city centre, led by the first batch of Colchester Pride community champions.

Those marching will gather at the Mercury Theatre at 10.15am before making their way down High Street, arriving at the heart of the Pride action, Firstsite, by 11am.

There truly is something for everyone at this year’s event with performances from RuPaul's Drag Race UK stars Copper Topp and Essex’s own Cheryl Hole as well as a host of wonderful local favourites.

The fun at Firstsite runs from noon until 7pm and the venue will also host poetry and comedy hours, several workshops, and a marketplace showcasing independent businesses and a great array of food.

Colchester Pride trustee Ben Powell said: “It has been a delight to see the community flourish year on year, particularly since lockdown, and turnouts to our events have been on the rise across the board.

“Pride brings LGBTQ+ people together but community keeps us together. We are so pleased to be able to offer this main event, as a result of our small team's hard work across the year and we hope that all who attend have a wonderful time.”

Tickets for Colchester Pride are still available at colchesterpride.com, with doors closing at 5.30pm.

Tickets are also on sale for Colchester Pride’s Big Camp Cabaret at Colchester Arts Centre, which is set for next Saturday, as the charity gets the ball rolling with its fundraising campaign for Pride 2024.
