A COMMUNITY has pulled together to showcase some of the best bits of Harwich with a very special pink theme.
Bright pink cupcakes will be given out for free to showcase Harwich's Electric Palace cinema.
Salons 2 will be giving out the cakes on pink napkins and pink plates to Barbie-goers seeing the film on August 18, 19 and 21.
The hair salon is a 20 minute walk from the cinema, giving filmgoers a nice stroll to stretch their legs and eat their cupcakes before sitting down to watch the two hour film.
Anne Catten, owner of Salons 2, said she hoped it would help showcase what Harwich has to offer.
Anne said: "With all the new houses being built, there are so many more people coming into the area.
"I think it's such a good thing that we have a local cinema that's showing all the latest and greatest films for all Harwich residents."
The Electric Palace is an iconic and historic staple of Harwich and supports its community as much as the community supports the cinema itself.
Built in 1911, it is one of the world's oldest and least altered purpose-built cinemas that still puts on shows to this day.
Anne added: "It's a community effort to keep the cinema alive, as it relies on donations to thrive."
The cupcakes were generously supplied by Gemma July-Bridges, a home-baker of Mrs Bees Makes & Bakes, for one pound each.
Gemma said: "It's really important to help out local establishments and promote businesses in Harwich so I try to do so whenever possible.
"I think people are too fast with everything, people, including me and my kids, like going to Odeon and Cineworld, but the Electric Palace is really lovely and worth going down to.
"I used to go there a lot when I was younger and it has lots of great history behind it."
