Thomas Lord Audley students celebrate results with pregnant teacher

Head of drama, Emma Hopkins, was on hand to congratulate pupils at  Thomas Lord Audley, in Monkwick Avenue, on Thursday. 

Students had braved the rain to collect their GCSE results.

Emma is expecting to have her baby in two days’ time.

She said: "I wouldn't miss it, I would be here with the baby if it had arrived."

Having been at the school for ten years, she has only ever missed one results day.

Thomas Lord Audley celebrated the successes of many high-achieving students this year.

One of those students was Goodness Chinwubah who received five grade 9’s, with some of those in maths, science and history, and grade 7’s and 8’s in every other subject. 

She plans to study what she enjoys at Colchester Sixth Form, that being chemistry, psychology and maths.

Tristan Barker adds onto the school's high-achieving streak with his three grade 7's in geography, English language and English literature, 5's, 6's and a 4 in his other subjects, and a distinction star in catering. 

He will be heading off to Colchester Sixth Form to study psychology, criminology and sports, which all adhere to his future plans of becoming a sports therapist.

Another high-achieving pupil was Patrick Adeleye whose highest grade was a 9 in English literature. 

He plans to study maths, further maths, economics and psychology at Barton Manor, which is in Canterbury.

One student amazingly achieved, on average, 2 grades higher in all of her subjects than would be nationally expected.

That stellar student was Charlotte Caplin, with a 9 in history and three 8's in science, maths and geography and is planning to study biology, chemistry and psychology at Colchester Sixth Form. 

Proud, she said: "I'm surprised at how far I've come over the last few years."

Another outstanding pupil was Lily Emberson who achieved a 9 in German and a 9/8 in science. She will be going on to study German, geology, chemistry and maths at Colchester Sixth Form.

Lily was pleased with her results and reports: "I wasn't expecting this result after hearing about the higher grade boundaries in the news."

Alice Newton received grade 6's and 5's in all her subjects and will be going on to study criminology, psychology and business at Colchester Sixth Form. 

Pupils of the school were all pleased with their results and prepare to tackle college life, an apprenticeship or the world of work.

Simon Essex, the school’s headteacher, said: “I am incredibly proud of all the hard work and achievements of the students.

“Our teachers have again worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education and study. We look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.

“I would like to thank my staff, the students and their families for all that they have done to achieve these outcomes.”
