POLICE were led on a dramatic chase which saw a stolen car crash into a building before two people made off on foot.
Eagled eyed officers sprung into action after spotting a car which was believed to be stolen in Cowdray Avenue on Saturday night at 11.20pm.
After the vehicle failed to stop for officers, a pursuit followed, with assistance from the National Police Air Service helicopter.
The suspect vehicle collided with a building in Magdalen Street and two people fled on foot.
A member of the public alerted the officers and two suspects were located nearby after being detained by the dog unit by 11.55pm.
Two knives were seized from the vehicle, alongside an amount of suspected Class A and Class B drugs.
An 18-year-old male and a 13-year-old boy, both from Colchester, are in custody for questioning.
Both were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, drug offences, possession of an offensive weapon, and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
Chief Inspector Colin Cox, Colchester District Commander, said: “We will take quick and robust action to tackle vehicle crime, and our work to keep weapons and harmful substances off the streets of Colchester never stops.
“Thankfully, due to the swift work of officers and alert members of the public, two people were identified and arrested shortly after this incident began.
“We rely on our close links with residents in Colchester to keep us informed and aware of issues as and when they arise.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
