THOUSANDS of loyal fans packed out Colchester Castle Park for a popular Essex singing star’s homecoming show.
Witham's Olly Murs performed in Colchester on Sunday night to more than 10,000 fans.
Amongst the attendees were Olly superfans who haven’t missed a single tour, youngsters at their first-ever concert and a bride-to-be on her hen do at the Marry Me tour.
One bride-to-be, Joanne Liddle, was there with her mother, seeing Olly Murs live for the ninth time.
Joanne and her mother Belinda had travelled from Clacton for the show.
The tour seemed popular for brides, as another bride-to-be, Sarah Perry, from Tiptree, was there as part of her hen do.
She said: “I’m here with all my loved ones, it’s amazing, it’s a great atmosphere.
“Olly is so popular with people in Essex because he’s a local boy, so we all support him.”
Many families were celebrating birthdays, including the Harpin and Ross family who travelled from Harwich, there for their mum Dawn Harpin's birthday.
Sarah Harpin said: “It’s a wholesome event because he’s only from Witham so he’s very close to all of us.
“It makes a change having someone like Olly here in Colchester, it’s very exciting.”
Best friends Beverley Pascoe and Wendy Hill from Colchester barely ever miss a big event in Colchester.
Beverley said: “We may be a bit older but that doesn’t stop us from going out and having a good time.
“We leave the husbands at home and get out and have fun all the time.”
Emma and Francesca, 9, were both there experiencing their first-ever concert together.
The mother and daughter from Dovercourt were at the show as part of a Christmas present.
Emma said: “It’s a bit sad that this is my first ever concert but to be here with my daughter is amazing.”
Another family, who called themselves the ‘Rowhedge Wanderers’ were enjoying a family evening as they danced together.
Another pair, friends Louise Bennison and Anna Morris had travelled from Clacton to see Olly.
They had both seen him before a couple of times and felt connected to the Essex star.
It’s safe to say the show brought people of all ages together, with even Olly commenting that some of the audience probably wasn’t even around when he began his journey on the X Factor in 2009.
