HISTORIC buildings in Colchester were illuminated in a warming glow to raise awareness of the steps being taken to prevent overdose and suicide incidents.

Colchester Castle and the town hall were lit up in a bright purple on Thursday in support of the annual International Overdose Awareness Day, initiated by the Australian public health researcher Penington Institute.

Buildings in the city centre will next be illuminated from September 4 to 10, this time in green in support of Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.

There are many mental health resources available for anyone in need, as well as their family and friends.
