A multi-generational music festival returns to Colchester, transforming historic venues into concert halls.
The annual Roman River Festival has revealed its schedule, including renowned musicians and upcoming talents.
The festival started in 2000 as a single music day for a dozen young musicians and has grown into a vibrant and diverse festival.
Past events featured internationally renowned classical musicians but also stretched into modern art with beatboxers, choreographers, and digital artists.
The festival partners with schools to offer music workshops and lessons or perform small concerts on the school grounds.
With Colchester’s rich history, it provides the perfect locations for the musical events having used venues like churches, museums, libraries, a nightclub and theatres.
Visitors can look forward to seeing the Wivenhoe Youth Choir, Tom Morris OBE and the Sacconi Quartet with Beethoven in the Dark, Rainer Crosett and Daniel King Smith alongside the Winner of the Essex Young Musicians Competition 2023 and acapella group Apollo 5.
The festival also includes family-friendly events like the Bach to Baby family concert and a public masterclass by violinist Sijie Chen.
The Roman River Festival takes place from Tuesday, September 26 to Sunday, October 1. Tickets can be purchased online with discounted tickets for people under 30 at £15.
