Mersea Road at Langenhoe is reopened by Anglian Water

Anglian Water workers were repairing a chunk of the carriageway in Mersea Road, Langenhoe, for several days.

But their decision to fully close the road rather than opt for a partial closure left some residents frustrated.

One Langenhoe resident said the issue, which only impacted a small portion of the road, could have been fixed by only shutting one carriageway.

He said: “Why not try to keep the road open as much as we can while closing a part of it to protect the safety of those working?

“Could this not have been controlled by traffic lights? There has been days of disruption which has felt unnecessary.”

An Anglian Water spokesman said the full road closure was in place to “keep our people safe while they fix this pipe”.

She added: “The repair is now complete and we are expecting to fully reopen the road by the end of the day [Wednesday].

“We’d like to thank our customers in Langenhoe and Mersea island for their patience while we carried out this emergency work.”
