A CARE home could be set to extend its premises after plans to add an additional 13 bedrooms were submitted.
Bosses at Crouched Friars Residential Home say the extension will provide “significant improvements” to the site in Crouch Street, Colchester.
Blueprints submitted to Colchester Council propose the new bedrooms will be built on an “under-utilised part of the garden” and will have ensuites and associated day space.
Upgrade works to the landscaping of the care home’s gardens will be undertaken if the project is approved.
The home offers 53 elderly residential and dementia care bedrooms on a large site of just under 0.25 hectares.
If the expansion goes ahead, the existing floor area will increase by 28 per cent.
Plans reveal the new bedrooms will provide a floor area of 12sqm for the bed and space for an armchair, as well as a fully accessible disabled WC and shower room.
Six of the proposed rooms are on the ground floor and seven are located on the first floor.
A new open plan dayroom is also proposed to the ground floor, providing sitting and dining space.
Colchester Council has the final say on the plans.
