MAGISTRATES courts hear all kinds of crimes as they rattle through cases throughout the week.
From uninsured drivers to harrowing attacks, magistrates based in Colchester have heard it all.
Here’s a flavour of some of the cases heard at Colchester Magistrates’ Court this week:
Paul Sanyaolu, who crashed his car through a fence and overturned it into a ditch, must stump up more than £1,000.
The 18-year-old lost control of his Volkswagen Polo at the East Mersea Road junction with The Strood in West Mersea.
The front seat passenger was injured during the incident on February 13, Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard.
An offence of driving without due care and attention was proved in Sanyaolu’s absence from court.
The defendant, of Oxton Close, Rowhedge, was ordered to pay £1,034 in a fine, costs and surcharge.
His driving record was endorsed with eight points.
Jordon Rumbelow, who sped at 111mph for almost one mile, has been allowed to keep his licence.
Rumbelow, also known as Bird, drove at the reckless speed for one kilometre on the A130 at Chelmsford.
Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard he was driving a Vauxhall Meriva Active on the 70mph road on August 30 last year.
Rumbelow, of North Wharf Close, Rowhedge, admitted the offence.
He was fined £666 and ordered to pay an extra £374 in costs and a surcharge.
The defendant’s driving licence was endorsed with eight points.
Warren Troughton, who assaulted a shopkeeper in Colchester, has been jailed for four months.
Troughton, 32, attacked his victim on July 14 last year, Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard.
Troughton, of Baddow Road, Chelmsford, denied an offence of assault by beating but it was proven in his absence at the same court.
The court heard the offence was “so serious” because it was made against a shopkeeper.
The magistrates sentenced Troughton to four months in prison and ordered him to pay £100 in compensation to his victim.
Omar Daud, who was caught driving without wearing his seatbelt, has been fined.
Daud, 20, was captured behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Astra in Brook Street, Colchester, when the offence occurred on May 11 last year.
Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard he was also not insured to drive the vehicle when found at 1.25am.
Daud, of Morden Street, south London, admitted both offences when he appeared in court.
The defendant was ordered to pay £244 in a fine, surcharge and costs and was handed six points on his driving licence.
