SCHOOLCHILDREN can once again enjoy their school’s playground thanks to the help of generous donors.

The playground at Doucecroft School had become tired and unsafe, but after donations from the community and a grant from the Eastern Counties Educational Trust, a new playground was declared open on Friday.

Pupils and staff from the school, in Abbotts Lane, Eight Ash Green, were joined by some of the fundraisers who helped to raise the funds to improve the outdoor facilities at the school.

The new playground comes hot on the heels of a recent installation of a go-kart track which was unveiled earlier this year.

Headteacher Louise Parkinson thanked the kind-hearted fundraisers, including her sister who ran the London Marathon.

“The playground offers Doucecroft pupils a safe space to build confidence and self-esteem, develop gross motor skills and social interactions as well a chance to play and have fun. It is being very well used already,” she added.

The specialist school for children and young people with autism and additional complex needs is run by the Colchester-based charity Autism Anglia.

Its chief executive James McQuiggan said the charity is “incredibly grateful” to everyone who helped get the new outdoor space off the ground.
