A plane was forced to turn back to Stansted Airport due to a loose window, aviation authorities have said.

On October 4, a plane of airline Titan Airways was on its way to Orlando, Florida and was forced to abort its flight after the members of the 21-strong crew noticed increased noise and an issue with a window.

The Titan Airways Airbus A321 Neo was missing the outer panel in three windows but the crew remained unharmed, as Titan Airways confirmed.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) reported it was looking into a “serious occurrence".

A spokesman of Titan Airways said: “The pilot did not declare an emergency and landed the aircraft safely, according to normal operating procedures. Emergency services at the airport were not activated.

“Following the landing, it was discovered that the outer panel in three of the windows was missing. The matter was immediately reported to the relevant authorities and an investigation is now taking place.

“The safety of all our people and our passengers is our primary concern in everything we do, and we will be working with the investigating authorities and a team from Airbus, to understand exactly what happened.“
