SAMSON Tovide insists Colchester United’s players are not surprised by their League Two winning streak.

The U’s host bottom side Sutton United this weekend, looking to chalk up four straight league wins for the first time in nearly seven years.

Colchester are aiming to follow up their fine 3-1 midweek victory over Swindon Town and striker Tovide says they are feeling confident.

Tovide said: “We know what we’re capable of.

“Winning three in a row isn’t really a surprise, because we know how good our team is.

“We showed that in the second half (against Swindon).

“The fans know what we can do, so the first half was obviously frustrating for them to watch.

“But we repaid our faith, in the second half.

“We came in at half-time and spoke as a team and said ‘let’s get pressure on them, let’s get up the pitch and play the balls in behind’ and we did that.

“We know what Swindon can do.

“Coming into it, we knew that they would have a lot of the ball and they showed that in the first half.

“They had some good chances but we did too, so credit to us.

“Everyone’s working well together as a team now.”

Tovide scored Colchester’s second goal against Swindon, finishing smartly from Will Greenidge’s cross.

It was the 19-year-old’s fifth goal of the season and he said he was pleased with the finish.

“I think it was the only clearcut chance I had in the game, so I was fully focused on the ball the whole time and took it well,” he said.

Tovide has been playing in a slightly wider position for Colchester of late, following Matty Etherington’s appointment as interim boss.

The striker has been adopting a left-sided role and says he is happy to help the team.

Tovide added: “It’s not my natural position but I’ll do a job there for the team.

“It’s been different.

“I haven’t really played there for a long time but Matty Etherington, Scotty (Marshall) and Dave (Huzzey) have helped me a lot.

“I’m learning all the time; I’m still young and I’m still trying to get a lot of games in me.

“I’m privileged to still be in the team and I’ll keep working hard."
