A PONY-LOVING youngster has raised almost £600 after riding more than 100km for charity.
Elsie-Rose Jeffrey, who was nine at the time, jumped in the saddle in aid of bone cancer research.
She originally set herself a £150 goal but smashed her target by taking part in the sponsored 'Ride for a Cure' appeal and raised £587.50.
Throughout September, Elsie-Rose could be seen trotting along country lanes, bridleways and around her local Great Totham area, completing an overall distance of about 100km.
Currently in Year 5, Elsie-Rose received a special mention at school as well as a headteacher’s award for her fundraising success.
Mum Chloe said: “Everyone is immensely proud of her.”
She said her daughter likes to challenge herself and also enjoys raising money to help others.
Elsie-Rosie is already planning to raise money in a sponsored ride next year.
Chloe added: “It’s heart-warming to see someone do something so selfless.”
Elsie-Rose rode a pony called Jim throughout her fundraising.
Jim is owned by someone else and is 26 - an old age for a horse or pony.
Caring, grooming and riding her beloved pony has taught Elsie-Rose all about responsibility, and she was thrilled to give Jim a well-deserved rosette after the fundraiser.
