A LIMITED production of 100 mugs commemorating King Charles' historic visit to Colchester have gone up for sale in aid of a campaign to raise money to fund a special statue.
The collection of mugs have been arranged by the city's High Steward Sir Bob Russell who is generating money for the installation of his Twinkle Star statue.
The piece will depict sisters Jane and Ann Taylor, prolific writers of poems including the famous Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, believed to have been composed in Colchester in 1806.
The mugs are being sold for £10.
Sir Bob said: “I felt the visit by King Charles and The Queen Consort, in March, should be commemorated, and the production of a limited edition of mugs would be a good idea with the sales raising money for the Twinkle Star statue project.
"While we have enough for the statue, which has now been cast, we still need to raise money for the engraved paving and installation.”
The statue will be located diagonally opposite Colchester Town Hall, on the wide pavement to the east of Pelham’s Lane in front of Tescos. It is hoped it will be installed in April.
To purchase a mug payment can be made either by cash or cheque to the Twinkle Star Fund by contacting sir.bob.russell@hotmail or by sending a letter to 35 Catchpool Road, Colchester CO1 1XN.
