A HEROIC hospital worker showed "incredible bravery" to stop a patient from jumping out a window.

Rosie Beattie, 68, was on her shift at Colchester Hospital when the incident happened.

The healthcare assistant saw a distressed patient break a window and try to jump out.

As she was the only member of staff in the immediate area of the incident, Mrs Beattie showed quick thinking and stopped the patient and kept them out of harm’s way before calling for help.

Mrs Beattie has been working in the NHS for 34 years and has been applauded for her calmness in a stressful and dangerous situation while ensuring the patient's safety.

Her team at the Peldon Ward honoured her bravery of her “incredible” actions and has been awarded a Commendation Award by the East Suffolk and North Essex Trust.

The award is given to employees, “who go the extra mile to support our patients and each other”

"Every day, in every corner of the NHS, staff do a great job. And sometimes colleagues go even further, over and above what others would do," says the trust on its website.

"Our commendation scheme recognises these people by giving regular awards to our colleagues who do extraordinary things."

Anne Rutland, a deputy chief nurse, said: “The bravery Rosie showed that day was incredible, and we are all very proud of her.

"She is an outstanding member of staff and a very valued member of the Peldon Ward team.”
