COLCHESTER United striker Joe Taylor played for 45 minutes as Wales under-21s were beaten 2-1 at home by Denmark in their latest U21 European Championship qualifier.

The 21-year-old striker, who has been in fine goalscoring form on loan at the U’s from Luton Town, started for the Young Dragons at Rodney Parade before being one of three players to be replaced at half-time by manager, Matty Jones.

Tobias Bech opened the scoring for Denmark after five minutes before Oliver Nielsen doubled the visitors' lead near the end.

Cian Ashford grabbed a late consolation for Wales but it proved too little, too late.

Taylor was unlucky not to score just before the break when he beat the offside trap and found himself through on goal but was denied by Denmark goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen.

Taylor will be hoping for more international game time when Wales under-21s play their next qualifier at home to Lithuania, next March.

The young striker is currently Colchester's leading scorer, after bagging eight goals for the club.
