A FREE community project providing winter warmers for people in need has been praised by a Colchester councillor.
Charities came together to offer pre-loved clothing for adults and children ahead of the colder months at St Margaret's Church Hall in Stansted Road, Colchester.
The event on November 17 also offered information, advice and support from staff and volunteers of different organisations, such as Colchester Council, Colchester Foodbank, NEST and the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service.
Besides the coats and clothing, shoes, bedding and other items, which had been donated by community members, were given to families and individuals to keep them warm over the winter months.
Councillor Dave Harris praised the work of the volunteers who rallied around for the event.
He said: “Literally thousands changed hands to assist the community in dealing with the cost of living in my area.
“I wish to put on record my sincere thanks to Les Nichols and Michelle Whiteman for heeding my request to help my part of Colchester.”
NEST and the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service are charities helping families and children, as well as individuals to provide support and advice.
