COLCHESTER residents are divided over the quality of parking on offer in the city, with some describing it as "easy" and others saying it is too "expensive".
Gazette readers were asked for their views on their experiences with parking in Colchester - and the response was more than a little bit mixed.
While some were positive, others poked fun at the cost of parking in the area compared to other shopping destinations.
Derek Goodley, for example, said: "I usually go to other towns with free parking.
"I mean you can't even maintain the roads, yet you bleed people for money to park. For what, to visit a nail bar or hairdressers?"
Simon Moore, on the other hand, believes that finding a parking spot in the city is just as easy as anywhere else.
He said: "Parking is easy. Absolutely no worse than other places the same size.
"[The] price is about average, cheaper than Chelmsford, similar to Ipswich, we'd all like it free, but I'd like free chocolate and I can't have that either."
Adam Cardy, another opinionated reader, agrees, but thinks the car parks in Colchester are outdated.
"The lines in St John’s car park were painted originally 40 years back, when cars were generally smaller, so now the spaces feel a little tight," he said.
Other readers, meanwhile, are themselves divided over the parking set-up in the city, like Hannah Roberts.
She said: "We don’t have a huge problem.
"Vineyard carpark has been completely destroyed with the stupid bike lane going through it, I don’t know who thought that was a good idea as it's taking away a decent amount of spaces.
"We usually just go straight to the Greyfriars Hotel car park, it’s cash only but we've never not been able to find a space."
