A COLCHESTER author has released a new book which is the pinnacle of four years hard work after essentially walking around the length and breadth of Essex.
Mark Russell has just released his latest book, Edge Of Essex: A Month of Walks Around The County.
Spanning 28 days, Edge of Essex follows Mark as he treks around some of the most gorgeous areas of Essex.
The book highlights and champions many of the county’s natural splendours whilst he travels along spectacular beaches, marshlands, villages and even ventures up the odd cliff.
For Mark the book boasts some very exciting features that he’s never done in his career so far.
He said: “My latest book Edge of Essex is a culmination of four years' work and takes the reader around the entire county, beginning at Harwich and moving in a clockwise direction for 28 days of walks.
"The journey takes in the golden beaches and peaceful marshlands of the North Sea coast and the military history and bustling industry of the Thames.
“It takes up the boat-laden Lea-Stort watercourse and flinty churches of the western boundary and the lowland water meadows of Constable Country.
“For the first time, the book is in colour, with hundreds of photographs and maps showing the reader around the edge of this most varied of counties.”
Mark has truly earnt a title for being a rambler, as he has previously released four other books in which look at some of his adventures around the area.
Some of his previous work includes East of Lea: Walking The Western Boundary of Old Essex, a book that follows his journey across the county’s old western boundary.
He also wrote Our Southern Shore: Walking the Essex Thames – from Shoeburyness to River Lea, and The Longest Path: Walking The Essex Coast.
When speaking previously to The Gazette, Mark’s father, Sir Bob Russell, was extremely proud of his son’s endeavours.
He said: “I believe Mark is probably the first person, ever, to have walked the entire boundary of the county of Essex.”
Edge Of Essex: A Month of Walks Around The County is available to purchase in paperback form Colchester’s Red Lion Books for the price of £16.99.
