TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill yesterday on a busy main road following a protest on a bridge.
Essex Police officers were called to reports of a group of people with a banner on a bridge above the A12 at 11.08am on Thursday.
Upon arrival, the force stopped motorists as they assessed the situation.
Following a brief investigation the demonstration, which was taking place above the A12 between Colchester and the village of West Bergholt, was deemed peaceful.
A spokesman for the police said: "No offences committed."
