On Friday 17th November, Newmarket hosted their annual high street light switch on.

Last Friday, I had the pleasure to take part in the Christmas light switch on in Newmarket, upon entrance, I was greeted with many different stalls, rides and games that were mainly targeted toward children which was a shame considering the mass amount of teenagers in attendance. I was able to purchase a box of churros from one of the vendors and they were delicious and a reasonable price for an event like this.

Leading up to the main event, they had a few different acts come out and perform on a stage such as Vogue Athletics and winners from the town's recent 'Got Talent' competition. Another performance they had was from Encanto's own Mirabel who sang a few songs from the movie, getting the children in the audience very excited. Everyone in the crowd was singing along and having a good time.

Gazette:

Every year the town chooses two phenomenal people in the community to press the big red button, and this year they chose very well. Paula and Michael (the chosen two) were a perfect choice considering their kindness and resilience and the impact they've had in the community. As the town counted down, you could feel the excitement in the air before we reached number 1 and the town was illuminated.

Gazette: The chosen two.

Even after the main event, people stuck around to sing, dance and enjoy the festivities. Overall, I feel the light switch on was a great thing for the community and was a brilliant night in town.
