COLCHESTER United were beaten 4-1 at home by Barrow, on Saturday afternoon.

The U's had taken the lead through Cameron McGeehan's 20th-minute goal.

But two second-half goals from George Ray and own goals from Will Greenidge and Zach Mitchell condemned Colchester to a heavy home defeat.

Here are the Gazette player ratings, after head coach Matty Etherington tasted home defeat as the first time as U's boss.

TOM SMITH 5

U’s goalkeeper was beaten four times on his return to the U’s league starting line-up

WILL GREENIDGE 5

Was unfortunate to score an own goal for Barrow’s equaliser; played in left-sided role

ZACH MITCHELL 5

Could do little about his late own goal on and on-loan Charlton defender had generally defended well in the game

Gazette:

TOM DALLISON 5

Was part of a U’s defence left exposed in the final stages against a clinical Barrow side

MANNY EGBO 5

Could do little to prevent Colchester conceding three late goals after a generally solid display

CAMERON MCGEEHAN 7

Scored their goal and played well although will be kicking himself he didn’t score a gilt-edged chance. Booked

Gazette:

ARTHUR READ 7

U’s man of the match. Was at the heart of everything Colchester did well and hardly put a foot wrong

NOAH CHILVERS 6

U’s captain tried hard to make things happen and was part of a decent first-half display

JAYDEN FEVRIER 6

Provided the assist for McGeehan’s goal and played well before being sent off late on

Gazette:

SAMSON TOVIDE 6

Battled hard as always for his side; was more effective in the first half before being replaced late on. Booked

JOE TAYLOR 6

U’s top goalscorer was denied several times by the in-form Farman and looked sharp in the first half
