Little Simz is a singer/rapper from London. She is well known for her songs such as Venom and Gorilla which combined have been streamed over a million times on Spotify. Little Simz released her No Thank You album in 2022 and she has since gone on her No Thank You tour. She decided to go on tour to six different locations across the UK. These included Manchester, Glasgow and London to name a few.

Earlier this month I was fortunate enough to see her live at one of the two sold out nights at the stunning venue of Alexandra Palace in North London. Here is my review of the evening.

The venue where the concert was held was the amazing Alexandra Palace. To begin there were two brilliant openers OTG and Hak Baker. These musicians were a great way to get the crowd warmed up for the main act. Although they were less well known artists the crowd were clearly enjoying their music singing along, if not dancing. They were visibly excited to be the openers for Simz telling the audience how appreciative they were of her.

When the legend herself, Little Simz, came out on stage the performance was outstanding starting off with one of her hit songs Silhouette. The atmosphere was infectious with everyone having a brilliant time. Her stage presence was mesmerising, communicating frequently with the crowd and getting them involved by singing along, walking along the front of the crowd and later on in the evening taking polaroids of the crowd for them.

Another fan of Simz’s music Demelza Berry says that ‘she's an amazing story teller and you can really tell that through her lyrics and the emotion in her voice when she actually performs. Her instrumentals are also great, atmospheric and dramatic’.

Along with this brilliant performance, the lighting and staging added another element with bright bold colours and brilliant music quality. As each song was performed different displays for different songs were put on and this helped present each of the songs as individual pieces. This was incredibly successful and added to the amazing story telling that is shown within her music. Her songs cover a range of different, important topics, one of which is being a woman in today's world.

Throughout the concert she kept up high energy through playing some of her classics along with the more popular songs. She had a surprise guest for both of the London shows. On the night that I was there she brought out guest act and brilliant singer Cleo Sol to the stage to sing Woman. During the evening she continually expressed her love and gratitude for London, the city that she grew up in.

Overall the concert was a great night out and I would recommend her live performance to anyone who has the opportunity. This is because of her brilliant stage presence, superb songs and the stunning visuals.
