COLCHESTER has been revealed as one of the most dog-friendly cities in the UK by pet insurance experts.
Dogs are the most commonly owned pets in the UK, with 31 per cent of households containing a canine companion.
Experts from Animal Friends Pet Insurance have now ranked the UK’s most dog-friendly cities, basing their scores on the amount of green space, training classes available, number of dog-friendly job listings and pro-pup pubs in each area.
Other factors include the distance to the nearest dog-friendly beach, number of pre-planned walks around each city and the number of dog-friendly cafes and restaurants.
Coming in with an incredible score of 263 out of a potential 300, Colchester was ranked as the fourth most dog-friendly city in the UK.
This comes from the 40 per cent recorded green space, 41 listed dog walks and 39 dog-friendly restaurants in the area which experts established during their research.
Out of all the other cities in the UK, the most dog-friendly city in the UK is Brighton, with Exeter coming in a close second and Chester coming in third.
