A COLCHESTER student has spoken of his pride after he was chosen to represent Essex in a prestigious military parade.
Antwan Carter, a Year 11 student at St Helena School, was one of only three people to represent the county at the Trafalgar Day parade.
The annual parade is held in London to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in the Napoleonic Wars.
The spectacle sees hundreds of young people from across the cadet forces, led by the Sea Cadets, celebrating the historic anniversary with a special show of formal parading, marching band, club and cutlass display.
Antwan is a member of Colchester’s Army Cadet Force and is incredibly proud of being chosen for the parade.
“I was a bit nervous at first as it is such a high-profile event,” he said. “But the nerves soon went, and I felt really proud and excited.”
He was chosen for the parade shortly after getting promoted to the rank of Sergeant at the Army Cadet Force.
After finishing his GSCEs, Antwan is aiming to join the Army Foundation College in Harrogate and then the Royal Logistics Corp.
