On Sunday, the 26th of November, Colchester’s first Christmas market for the year appeared, marking the beginning of the festivities.
‘Christmas markets truly kick off the season in the best way possible, and this one was definitely one to remember’ (Grace Turner, 16)
The high street road was closed prior, allowing the preparation of a variety of stands selling mulled wine, street food, winter accessories, handcrafted gifts, and many more. Most prominently, the churro and hot chocolate stand, which had a continuously long queue in which many people had waited in anticipation for the sweet delicacies.
In addition to this, the market provided the public with an array of Christmas decorations to choose from, such as mini-Christmas trees, baubles, wreaths, as well as wrapping paper, starting upwards of a pound each. It was therefore the perfect place to purchase that special addition for your home this Christmas season.
‘Christmas markets are a fantastic way to have fun over the holiday, as often entry costs nothing and they appeal to people of all different ages’ (Freya Gallagher, 16)
The merry atmosphere was complete with the help of ‘Those Colchester Buskers,’ who are a group of musicians made up of Simon, Terry, and Dave. The live band featured one of them dressed up as Santa Claus, making the experience unforgettable for children who were thrilled at the chance to meet the person they believed were responsible for their gifts each year.
The market was a fantastic opportunity for family and friends to spend time together and share the Christmas spirit before the month of frantic buying commenced.
The Christmas market will be back again on the 10th of December from 10am to 4pm.
