Residents of a “tight knit” community have been left in shock after a man's death sparked a police probe.
Tributes have been paid by some of the residents of Queen Mary Avenue, off Berechurch road, after a man was discovered dead on Wednesday morning.
Officers and ambulance crews were called to a property just after 10.30am when the man was discovered.
The investigation is currently still ongoing and being treated as an “unexpected” death.
James Lloyd, 83, who had moved to the area in 2006, said the man was "always pleasant".
He said: “It surprised me.
“We spoke briefly when out and about, he was always pleasant, never had any problems with him.”
Another resident who wishes to remain anonymous said: “I think it is quite sad.
“They tended to keep to themselves.
“They weren’t noisy neighbours, they always said hello and he was very pleasant.
“They never interfered with anyone. I just think it’s sad, I feel sorry for him but he's at peace now.”
One resident noticed an ambulance and police cars after they pulled into the top of the road on Wednesday.
They said: “I thought oh my god and what happened?
“You just worry when you see this sort of thing.”
Dave Harris, the ward councillor for Berechurch, said Essex Police must be left to complete its investigation.
He said: “It’s always a shock and a sad day when a resident passes away in these circumstances, unexpected or any case.
“I trust the police will do their duty and job to find out what has gone on.
“I am just thinking of this poor man and his family at this point in the year, I also feel for the neighbours and residents that surround the area."
The Gazette has contacted Essex Police for an update on this incident.
