A FARE dodger who tried to get out of paying a £48 train ticket has been ordered to pay a fine of almost £800.
George Lewis, of Mersea Road, Colchester, was caught out at London Paddington.
On Wednesday, November 15, officials at Colchester Magistrates Court proved the case in his absence.
As well as ordering Lewis to pay the £48.20 ticket, magistrates also fined the 31-year-old £796.
The overall total of £844.20 was more than 17 times more expensive than the cost of the ticket he was trying to avoid.
