A COLCHESTER paramedic concerned about the length of time residents are having to wait for a GP appointment has taken matters into her own hands... by launching her very own clinic.
The Hassle Free Healthcare clinic in De Grey Road is now officially open for appointments, offering patients from in and around the city a chance to book face-to-face health consultations on the same day.
The assessments will be carried out by Sophie Pickford, an advanced paramedic and independent prescriber who has been working locally as a paramedic in general practice for the past five years.
As a Level 7 practitioner, she is qualified to examine adults and children in the new CQC-approved practice.
The centre is based at the Point Clinic and offers free parking and disabled access, with a friendly reception team with the necessary training to book medical appointments.
Additionally, Hassle Free Healthcare is open for out-of-hours appointments, where patients can access qualified medical advice until 8pm during the week and between 8.30am to 3pm on Saturdays.
While the clinic is not a replacement for a GP in cases of long-term or chronic conditions, and is not able to help in medical emergencies, the service is set up to provide quick and straightforward access for an assessment of minor illnesses, giving patients peace of mind and prescriptions for the appropriate treatment.
Sophie said: “I was struck by how difficult it can be to access face-to-face appointments with a GP at times that fit in with the busy lives we all lead.
“I wanted to do my bit to give patients more choice and I really think Hassle Free Healthcare will provide a valuable extra service for Colchester.
“Following my many years of experience in healthcare, I recognise just how important the role of our GPs is.
“As a Care Quality Commission-approved practice, Hassle Free Healthcare will never replace what a GP offers, but for minor illnesses or when you just need to speak to a medical expert face to face, it’s comforting to know you have that option.”
A 20 minutes consultation starts from £49. A wellness check including blood tests costs £400.
