A COLCHESTER fast-food chain has donated almost a quarter of a tonne of food to help those in need this Christmas.
McDonald's has donated 198kg of festive food, toiletries, and treats to Colchester Foodbank, based in Tollgate Retail Park.
Craig Newnes, owner of five of Colchester's McDonald's, gifted the goods on Tuesday to Colchester Foodbank boss Michael Beckett.
Supervisor Nicola Ranson as well as members of the CGN Team were also present during the handover.
Mr Newnes said: “I’m so proud of my staff and managers and office staff for donating food and toys to the Colchester Foodbank this festive season.
"We have partnered up with them to help support our community during this difficult time."
The donation comes ahead of what is set to be an extremely busy period for the city's food bank.
CEO Mr Beckett, said: "The team at Colchester Foodbank are delighted to receive support from our local McDonald's team.
"This helps us provide emergency food parcels to feed over 2,000 local people in crisis every month.
"December is expected to be our busiest month ever, with too many people unable to choose both to heat and eat.
"We are very grateful for this much needed support to help people to get through this winter, so thanks again to Craig and the team."
