CHRISTMAS Day is fast approaching and a variety of Colchester eateries have unveiled their ever-anticipated seasonal meals for festive customers.
For some, the dinner is the most memorable part of Christmas Day and, therefore, it is an essential component of the festive experience which needs to be done well.
Fortunately for hungry diners in Colchester, several of the city's top restaurants have adapted to the season with a variety of tasty Christmas selections on offer.
Here are some of most desirable Christmas Day dishes and where they are being served up.
The Old Siege House Bar and Brasserie
The Old Siege House Bar and Brasserie is situated at 75 East Street, Colchester.
Occupying a 17th century building, the eatery has a Christmas menu running throughout the festive period.
Bookings for the Christmas Party menu started on December 1 and will end on December 23.
From Tuesday to Saturday, a two day lunch costs £28.95 and a three course lunch comes in at £34.95.
Meanwhile, a two course dinner from Tuesday to Thursday costs £29.95 while a three course dinner comes to £35.95.
Starters include cream of winter vegetable soup, brie and cranberry tart served with mixed leaves and crayfish cocktail served with brown bread.
Main courses include a traditional roast turkey with stuffing, pigs in blankets roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
However, there is also slow cooked belly of pork served on bubble and squeak potatoes with cider sauce and seasonal vegetables.
Desserts range from steamed plum pudding, vanilla cheesecake and chocolate and orange tart, to name a few.
Church Street Tavern
As implied by its name, Church Street Tavern is based at 3 Church Street, Colchester.
Its Christmas menu totals £42 per person for three courses and £35 per person for two courses.
Starters on the menu include chicken liver parfait and spiced winter squash soup while mains include beef sirloin and beach ridge farm chicken.
Dessert choices range from sticky fig Christmas pudding and mint chocolate steamed sponge.
The Green Room
The Green Room is located at 51, North Hill.
Their Christmas menu runs from November 26 to December 23.
Brunch is served from 8am, lunches from 12pm to 2pm while dinners are served from 6pm to 9pm.
Although The Green Room is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, the brunch menu will be served from 10am - 4pm on Christmas Eve.
The festive menu will also be available from 12pm to 4pm on New Year's Eve.
Lunch and dinner is served from Wednesdays to Sundays.
The brunch menu includes a full English breakfast, eggs benedict as well as a variety of sandwiches and salads.
Pavilion Restaurant
The Pavilion is located in Middleborough, Colchester.
The restaurant is also adapting for the festive season, with four course and six course festive tasting menus, including an alternative menu for vegetarians.
The four course tasting menu includes steamed edamame beans, spicy salmon and soft shell crab volcano tempura roll, buttermilk chicken skewers and Korean short rib.
It comes to a total of £39.95 per person.
By contrast, although coming to the same price, the vegetarian alternative menu instead includes a green volcano tempura roll, vegetable gyoza and tofu green curry.
The six course tasting menu totals £49.95 per person and adds sesame prawn tama and Asian pistachio opera to the dishes in the four course menu.
The vegetarian six course menu also costs £49.95.
Mimosa
Mimosa is located in Colchester Business Park and provides a British menu specialising in modern and seasonal dishes.
Mimosa's Christmas Party Menu costs £35.95 for two courses and £39.95 for three courses.
Its starter offerings include oak smoked salmon, panko fried brie and pulled ham hock terrine, to name a few.
Main courses range from roasted turkey breast, carbonade of beef and Suffolk pork belly.
Dessert options include chocolate caramel cheesecake, chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding.
