ALEX Newby scored a magnificent free-kick to earn Altrincham a point in their game at Bromley.

The Colchester United midfielder, who is on loan at the Robins until January, struck a thunderbolt of a free-kick deep into injury-time to earn a 2-2 draw for his side, in their National League clash.

Altrincham looked like they were heading for defeat until Newby stepped up and curled a brilliant free-kick from around 20 yards into the net, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.

Newby had earlier given Altrincham a 13th-minute lead in the game, before Olufela Olomola had given Bromley, managed by former U's goalkeeper Andy Woodman, the advantage.

Newby was a regular for Colchester last season, scoring three goals in 34 appearances.

Colchester youngster Oscar Thorn was an unused substitute for Bath City in their 4-0 win over Welling United, in National League South.

The 19-year-old has been on loan at the National League South club since joining them last month, in a loan move until January.

Thorn has made three appearances for Bath so far, against Yeovil Town, Chelmsford City and Farnborough.

He joined the U’s from Norwich City in January 2023, signing a one-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

Harry Beadle helped Bishop's Stortford claim an impressive 2-0 win at Darlington, in National League North.

The 20-year-old defender, who is enjoying his second loan spell with the Blues, played the full 90 minutes in the Blues' first away league victory of the season.
