WITH Christmas as good as over, attention has naturally turned to New Year's Eve - with how and where to ring in 2024 being a topic of conversation among many a friendship group and family.

If you have decided to brave the busy NYE hustle and bustle, Colchester city centre boasts plenty of venues which can make for an extra special night of celebration as partygoers look to new beginnings. 

With that in mind, here are five Colchester bars perfect for commemorating the New Year.

Starting at 6.30pm and ending at 1am, Three Wise Monkey’s Live New Year Hootenanny sounds like it could be an amazing night out for all.

With the following line-up of original bands - Hot Tramp, Elephant Jane, Matthew’s Climbing Frame and more to be announced – prepare to have fun.

Book early to avoid disappoint at £10 for advanced tickets. Subject to availability, £12 door tickets will also be available.

Roberts Bar & Club Colchester

With a final release price of £15, dance your “last boogie” of 2023 at Roberts Bar & Club in Vineyard Street.

Supplying the “riddums, smiles and dancefloor” the event by London-based DPST starts at 8pm and finishes at 3am.

With the genres described as “minimal” and “tech house”, the line-up includes Jules Gibson, Merchant, Swaz, Regan Funk, Rhys Trusler and Wattsy.

Truth Colchester

MODEZ OF VIBRATION presents a New Year's Eve special at Truth Colchester which is in Crouch Street near Balkerne Hill

The venue’s Room 1 will have a “drum & bass jump up jungle” line-up with ‘Jumpin Jack Frost’ being a major act. Room 2's “house and tek” line-up is yet to be announced.

Tickets online cost £11.25.

Slug and Lettuce

Also in the High Street, Colchester’s Slug and Lettuce will be extending its “bottomless” brunches until the early night, with last brunch bookings for 7 - 9pm.

This will be followed by The Butterfly Ball with a range of prices for different slots.

“Glamour girls and cool kings” can receive a free “botanical bombshell cocktail and goodie bag” for each group member when ‘guest list’, area or drinks bookings are made.

Wivenhoe House Hotel - Brassiere Event & Black-tie Gala 

Based in Wivenhoe House Hotel in Park Road, the Park Brassiere is offering an elegant New Year’s night out.

At £95 per person, a three-course meal, a drink at midnight and a DJ are on offer with the event lasting from 8pm to 1am.

The Park Brasserie menu for the night includes the option of a sirloin or beef or wild mushroom main as well as a “British cheese selection” or “quartet” of miniature desserts for the final course.

Also at Wivenhoe House Hotel is the "New Year's Eve Gala dinner", a chance to dress up for a “black-tie gala dinner celebration” which will start at 7.30pm and end at 1am.

A six-course meal as well as both prosecco toast at midnight and prosecco with canapes on arrival will be provided to guests for £145 per person.
