A SUPERMARKET trolley shelter has been blown over by strong winds caused when Storm Henk hit Essex.

At around 6.30pm this evening, a trolley shelter in Colchester Asda Car Park in Turner Road was turned upside as a result of the Storm Henk.

A member of the public revealed that when they went into the shop at around 6.15pm, the shelter was upright but said already the “legs were lifting in the wind".

The person said: "A couple of staff were monitoring it there.

"One of the back legs was lifting up six to seven inches at time in the wind."

The person added that when the they were in the shop, a tannoy announcement asked if anyone shopping was parked in the "click and collect are" - but to their knowledge no one was.

Ten minutes later, when the person exited the store, they saw the shelter already fully tipped over.

The member of the public who lives nearby explained how the shelter's location near the stairwell next to the store means any damage to the shelter is very noticeable to passers-by.

So, last winter when the person saw hazard tape around the shelter, it was very obvious.

The person added that from last winter until now, it only looked like "someone had pushed it back into right position".

Asda's Press office have been contacted for a comment.
